Demolition Services
Residential demolition services have been a natural transition from our hardscaping services. In many instances these services go hand and hand. Whether we need to tare down a deck to install a patio, removing an old shed that has become a hazard, or reclaiming your back yard from that money pit of a pool you have. We continue to provide professional services at the highest quality.
During 2009 NEIGHBORHOOD Services, LLC expanded our forte to include swimming pool removal and residential demolition needs. NEIGHBORHOOD Services, LLC can take care of that huge headache in the back yard that is costing you $1000’s of dollars a year with no positive results. Already completely equipped for this type of work, we can address these issues in a cost effective manor. Many times after removing a pool we have installed a new entertainment area (patio) so customers can now enjoy their backyards without constant costs of additional taxes, added insurance, chemicals, and most important the time it takes to maintenance that pool.
Steps to Removing your Pool
The first step in removing a pool is going to city hall and finding out what they require. You will also need to pull a permit for this work. You want to do this so it is removed from your taxes. Every town has different criteria when it comes to a project like this. You will need to know those specifications.
If your in ground pool is steel or fiberglass those materials MUST be removed and disposed of properly before backfilling. If your pool is concrete or gunite then you have a few options. The most costly is to completely remove all the materials and dispose. Some towns will require this. Most commonly for concrete/gunite pools They are allowed to be crushed and used as fill. The most important step is to break up the bottom of the pool about 4' wide about the whole length. This allows for the water table to rise and fall naturally. Once the bottom is broken up will break up the top 2-3’ of the pool coping into the bottom of the pool those pieces are broken up into pieces no bigger than about 12" x 12" in size. If you have concrete or pavers surrounding the pool that material can be used as fill.
Once the concrete is broken up and completely leveled. We use about 16 yds of crushed stone on top. Then we compact with a large compactor. Then we cover the stone with filter fabric and use clean fill. Filling in at 8-12" lifts compacting as you come up to help prevent settling. Once you get to the top we will use 4-6" of screened topsoil to restore the damaged areas from the equipment and over the pool.
What is now done with that area is up to the customer. If you plan on installing a patio directly where the pool was extra measures must be taken to compact the areas much better per ICPI standards. If you are planning on just installing a lawn then you will be fine.
